Yoshiyuki Maeda
Designer / Illustrator
Born in 1991 in Kanagawa, Japan, he graduated from the Department of Graphic Design at Tama Art University. While working as a UI designer in the fields of mobile apps and XR, he has also been creating handmade picture books for young children and those with visual impairments. Since 2013, he has participated in exhibitions and events both in Japan and abroad. In 2019, his work was selected for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair Illustrators Exhibition, leading to the 2020 publication of his picture book Sankaku Osakana Kakurenbo (Froebel-kan, Japanese Publisher).
In the same year (2019), he completed the Workshop Designer Training Program at Aoyama Gakuin University, leveraging the experience he gained there to plan and facilitate workshops for children. In 2024, he conducted a workshop at the Children’s Atelier of the Itabashi Art Museum, offering a space where children could freely explore creative expression.
In 2023, participation in a workshop at the Itabashi Art Museum focused on Italian “tactile picture books” prompted him to begin researching and producing tactile picture books in earnest. The following year (2024), he visited Italy to experience the local inclusive and visually impaired education firsthand, gaining insights to further enhance his activities in Japan.
